Asian Rice Journalist Award 2007

Winner of the Asian Rice Journalist Award 2007
We are pleased to announce the winner of the ASIAN RICE JOURNALIST AWARD 2007: MR KPM BASHEER of The Hindu for his winning entry "The Shrinking Fields of Pokkali" which is posted on PAN AP's website.
The first round of the ASIAN RICE JOURNALIST AWARD launched by PAN AP and the IFEJ (International Federation of Environmental Journalists) produced 21 nominations! We are honoured by these entries, all of which were unique.
The judges (from India, Singapore, Korea, the Philippines, and Malaysia) took time to carefully study each entry, and Basheer’s entry emerged with the highest overall score.
The winner was awarded his prize certificate and plaque at the UNDP Media Workshop on Climate Change in Delhi on 30 October 2007. He also received a book "Rice in Asia: Lives of Seven Farmers", courtesy of the publisher, the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre. He is further entitled to a one week's exposure visit to a rice farm at an Asian country of his choice (from a selected list of countries), courtesy of PAN AP.
We thank the judges, the nominees and those who made the nominations for their support and participation.
The aim of the ARJA is to recognize and encourage journalism on rice-related issues.
Next year's ARJA competition will be announced in Quarter 1 of 2008. Look out for it on PAN AP's website!
Save the Rice of Asia!
