NGOs: Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil must not allow IOI Corporation to sell its palm oil as green and sustainable
IOI Corporation, one of Malaysia’s leading producers of palm oil, failed to comply with the terms set by the RSPO Grievance Panel last month says an international coalition of NGOs, who have filed several formal grievances against IOI Corporation, an executive board member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Despite this failure, RSPO granted IOI another 21 day extension.
Penang, Malaysia. The Pesticide Action Network Asia and Pacific condemns Nestle SA, the multinational food company, for sourcing of palm oil from unsustainable suppliers that continue to destroy rainforests in the wake of a major study by environmental group Greenpeace.
RSPO General Assembly Commits to Protect HCV Areas but Fails to Act on the Issue of Highly Hazardous Pesticides
The annual meeting and sixth General Assembly of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was held in Kuala Lumpur from 1-4 November, 2009. This year's discussions focused on greenhouse gas criteria, land rights, pesticide use and creating demand for certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO).
Global climate change and the food crisis are taking centre stage in the international policy arena. Today is World Food Day and in November the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will host the World Summit on Food Security in Rome. In December, Copenhagen will host the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15), which will attempt to produce a viable framework for tackling climate change and the Kyoto Protocol.
